Chris Duncan and Catherine Strutt have been exploring and performing the traditional fiddle music of Scotland since 1990 together and have earned themselves the honourable position of being the longest functioning Scottish music duo in Australia.
Specialising in the Scottish music idiom, the ARIA and multi award winning, Newcastle based duo, have performed internationally and nationally at festivals, concerts, private functions, and countless Scottish Country dances and Balls. In recent years as ceilidhs have become more and more popular, they have established for themselves a strong reputation as Australia's leading Scottish Wedding ceilidh "band" and are the preferred choice for Scottish Wedding Ceilidhs.
Their first album Fyvie’s Embrace recorded and produced by ABC Classics has sold over fourteen thousand copies and when first released was received with much critical acclaim earning them the Best World Music Album ARIA in 2000. Their much anticipated second album with ABC Classics, The Red House was released September 2006 and was awarded the National Film and Sound Archive Best Folk Recording for 2007. In 2015, their Silver Anniversary year, they released their third recording, Carriages at Midnight, a collection of dance music for Scottish Country Dance and in 2023 released their second album of dance music, The Hour of Pearl, to celebrate their 30th Anniversary as a duo (delayed by Covid). In 2018 Catherine released a solo piano album, No Wind at The Window featuring Chris as guest fiddler, their third album for the ABC Classics recording label.
For thirty three years, Chris and Catherine’s superlative musicianship has brought to life the sensitive slow airs, the swing of the jig and groove of the reel, leaving audiences and dancers alike captivated, earning them much respect as Australia’s foremost Scottish music duo.
